How to Enable or Disable Java in Your Internet Browser
In all cases you should restart your browser after enabling or disabling Java.
Internet Explorer 8, 9, 10
- Go to Tools > Manage Addons (to get to the tools menu, click the cog icon in the top right corner).
- In the Show drop-menu (on the left of the new window), select All add-ons.
- Scroll down the list until you find Oracle America, Inc or Sun Microsystems, Inc.
- Select each Java-related item (Ctrl-click to select multiple items) and enable or disable them using the button below the list.
Chrome
- Type Chrome://plugins into the address bar.
- Scroll down the list until you find Java.
- Enable or disable using the associated link.
Firefox
- Go to Tools > Add-ons (access the Tools menu by clicking the Firefox logo at the top left).
- A new tab will open. Click Plugins.
- Scroll down to find Java, then enable or disable using the button provided.
Safari
- Go to Safari > Preferences.
- Click the Security icon.
- Enable or disable Java using the checkbox provided.
Opera
- Go to Opera > Page > Developer Tools > Plugins.
- Scroll down to find the Java plugin.
- Enable or disable using the link provided.
Older Browsers
Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.X and higher
- From the Tools menu select Internet Options.
- Select the Security tab and then the Custom Level option.
- Scroll down the dialogue box to Microsoft VM.
- Select either Low safety, Medium safety or High safety.
- Click the OK button (or press Enter).
- Choose Yes in the alert box.
- Click the OK button (or press Enter).
Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.X
- From the View menu select Options.
- Select the Security tab.
- Make sure the Enable Java Programs option has it's box checked.
- Make sure the Run ActiveX Scripts has it's box checked.
- Click the OK button (or press Enter).
Mozilla 1.X
- From the Edit menu select Preferences.
- Click the Advanced category.
- Make sure the Enable Java option has it's box checked.
Opera 7.X
- From the File menu select Preferences.
- Click the Multimedia category.
- Make sure the Enable Java option has it's box checked.
Netscape Navigator 4.X
- From the Edit menu select Preferences.
- Select the Advanced heading.
- Make sure the Enable Java option has it's box checked.
- Click the OK button (or press Enter).
