Scene Detect Using HDV in Premiere Pro 2.0

Let's get straight to the bad news: The scene detect feature in Premiere Pro 2.0 does not work with HDV capture (this was finally introduced in CS5). For version 2.0 there are two options:

(1) Use a different capture utility. There are other options available which can detect scenes and automatically create separate files. The quality should not be any different and you can import these files into Premiere and carry on as if the files had been imported using Premiere.

(2) Use the "double-capture" method. First capture the footage in DV mode (where scene detect works fine). Export a batch list of in/out points. Switch to HDV mode, import the batch list and recapture. It is recommended that you record a short additional clip at the start of the tape to provide the first reference point.
