Sound Reinforcement
The term sound reinforcement refers to any system which amplifies one or more sources for a live audience. The term is almost synonymous with public address system, although "sound reinforcement" tends to refer to performance situations such as live bands while "public address" tends to refer to public announcements, commentary, etc.
Components
The main components of a typical sound reinforcement system include:
- Sources: Microphones, DI (direct injection) boxes, playback devices (CD etc).
- Mixing console(s)
- Signal processing devices (equalizers, effects, crossovers, etc)
- Cables, including multi-cores
- Amplifiers
- Speakers
- Foldback
